84% Increase in Child Abuse Services in 8 Years Calls for County Delegation Action
5th Annual Legislative Breakfast

Fall River, MA – Over 150 people attended the Legislative Breakfast last January, to show their support and partnership of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County. The attendees included local area police, social workers, staff from the Bristol County District Attorney’s office, community leaders, and many more. The speakers and audience gathered to show their trust in the organization, with hope that the Bristol County legislative designates the center as their priority when they address state funding.

This year, the center will be hosting the Bristol County legislative delegation at their 5th Annual Legislative Breakfast on January 29th at 9:00am, at Hillside Country Club, 82 Hillside Avenue, Rehoboth, MA 02769.

The morning will begin with an Invocation by Rev. Robert Lawrence, followed by a complimentary breakfast and speaking program. This year’s speakers will include District Attorney Thomas Quinn, Tom King, the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Children Alliance (MACA), and a powerful testimonial by a child victim of abuse who has received services from the Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County.

Executive Director, Michelle Loranger said, “Since the agency’s inception in July 2007, the center has realized an 84% increase in the number of child victims receiving our services. Our Annual Legislative Breakfast is a very important event for our delegation to learn of the county’s unmet needs for the children and families facing the unimaginable and the accomplishments taking place over the past year.”

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County is the only agency of its kind in the area that provides a multi-disciplinary approach and response to child abuse allegations and disclosures. The agency’s mission is to empower children and families to heal from the trauma of abuse and violence through community partnerships, education, and the pursuit of justice. The center is based upon a national, evidence-based model of providing abused children and intellectually disabled adults who have been victims of sexual abuse, severe physical abuse or witness to violence. Education and awareness are vital to child abuse prevention, and the agency provides free training throughout Bristol County to teachers, parents, medical personnel, child-serving agencies, and other organizations that require knowledge on mandated reporting and best practices to disclosures of abuse.
