Spring 2019 Fiber Art Classes

Spring Trad Arts Class registrations have begun!

Classes being offered:

Papermaking / Suzi Ballenger
May 1 - May 22 (Wed. Evenings) 6:00 - 8:30 PM
Professional textile artist Suzi Ballenger teaches the paper-making process: how to embed, layer, shape, and color the pulp. Students will leave with a bound book of their handmade papers. In this class, students will learn how to make paper. They will embed, layer, shape, and color the pulp, and explore different plants and techniques to make paper – hydrangea, abaca, hemp, linen, even seaweed! Finally, students will be taught a simple stab binding technique to create a personal bound book out of their handmade papers.

Chair Caning / Steve Emma
April 10 - May 15 (Wed. Evenings) 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Master craftsman Steve Emma teaches open-studio chair caning on Wednesday evenings. All levels welcome, you provide the chair & tools, he provides the rush & reeds.

Handweaving / Suzi Ballenger
April 6 - June 8 (Sat. Mornings) 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Artist and production weaver Suzi Ballenger returns to teach all levels of weaving in an open studio format on Saturday Mornings. Slater Mill provides the Harrisville looms.

Beginner Knitting / Pam Sluter
April 24 - May 29 (Wed. Evenings) 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Pattern designer & knit instructor Pam Sluter returns this spring to teach beginners the solid foundations to build their knitting futures. In this class, students will learn basic knitting techniques. Students will need to bring their own yarn and knitting needles to each session.
