Sales Record Broken For the Prince of Providence

Several performances sold out and limited availability remains

Providence, RI: Trinity Rep announces record-breaking sales for its production of The Prince of Providence, the highly anticipated premiere about former Providence mayor Vincent A. “Buddy” Cianci, Jr. Tickets went on sale on August 10 and set a new record for single-day sales. This record had most recently been broken two weeks earlier when tickets went on sale for the company’s 42nd annual production of A Christmas Carol. Interest in this production has also driven 2019-20 Season subscription sales, which are seeing unprecedented growth. Many performances were near sold out with subscription tickets before tickets went on sale to the general public on Saturday. Ticket availability for The Prince of Providence is now very limited with several dates completely sold out.

Best availability is in the last week of the show’s run, which begins on September 12 and ends on October 20. Remaining tickets can be purchased at www.TrinityRep.com/buddy. Some seats are also held for new subscribers. Subscriptions begin at $120 for six plays.

The Prince of Providence is written by George Brant and is based on the New York Times best-selling book of the same name by Mike Stanton about the highs and lows of the career of former Providence mayor Buddy Cianci. Cianci left office twice because of legal issues. He remains a polarizing figure locally and a well-known political figure nationally, in part because of the podcast Crimetown, which featured his story in its first season. The play will be directed by Obie-Award winning Taibi Magar, a Brown/Trinity alumna who has garnered international attention for her work, and features New York-based actor Scott Aiello as Vincent A. “Buddy” Cianci.

The media sponsor for The Prince of Providence is Providence Media. The 2019-20 Season Sponsors are Ocean State Job Lot and Rhode Island Council on the Arts. Providence Tourism Council is a Supporting Season sponsor. Southwest Airlines is the official airline of Trinity Rep.
