Richard Dawson Carr

Posted

Richard Dawson Carr, 66, well-known to friends and family as “Fuzzy,” passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, surrounded by the comfort of his loving wife Karen, after a brief battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 12, 1952 in Attleboro, he was the son of the late Martin and Mary (McGann) Carr of North Attleboro.

He was a student of St. Mary’s School in North Attleboro, K-8, and later graduated in 1970 from North Attleboro High School.

Richard was married to his beloved wife Karen (Henry) of Rehoboth for 35 years and since 1997 the two of them resided in Rehoboth.

He was employed by Jeweled Cross in North Attleboro from 1968 to 1972, Riley Brothers Lumber in North Attleboro from 1972 to 2001 as an assistant manager, and at the Plainville Highway Department from 2001 to 2009 as a driver.

He was a former member of the North Attleboro Elks Lodge No. 1011.

Fuzzy enjoyed spending time with his wife Karen and their black lab Daisy. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and camping, as well as trips to Maine with his friends. While he enjoyed many forms of music, his favorite was jazz.

Known by all that knew him for his sharp and infectious sense of humor, Richard loved watching football, especially the Patriots. A favorite pastime for him was to try and “Beat Fearless (Mark) Farinella” in The Sun Chronicle every season. To his delight, Fuzzy was successful a few times. He was a generous and giving person, always ready to lend a hand.

Predeceased by his younger brother David, he is survived by his caring wife Karen, his older brother Michael Carr and his sister-in-law Jeannie, along with many much loved nieces and nephews, family members, and friends.

Richard was a polio survivor. He contracted it when he was 3 years old.

It was Fuzzy’s request that there be no service or ceremony. He will always be remembered for his extraordinary life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the March of Dimes, 220 West Exchange Street, Suite 003, Providence, RI 02903.
