(July 8, 2018) – Dirty fingers and wet toes mean summer fun for kids! Grab a net and join Audubon in the pond and wetlands as we search for critters both large and small.

Citizens Bank Free Family Fun Day

Thanks to Citizens Bank, the Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium is open free to the public the first Saturday of every month. Join us for crafts, nature stories, animal discoveries, hikes and more. No need to register!

Early Morning Birding Cruise Aboard the Explorer
East Providence, RI
August 3, 2019; 8:00 -9:00 am

Join Audubon aboard the Blackstone Valley's Explorer for a morning bird watching cruise exploring the spring beauty of the Seekonk River. Participants may wish to bring binoculars. The Explorer is a covered boat and runs rain or shine. Co-sponsored with the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council. Parking is available at departure location.
Departs from Al's Waterfront Restaurant, 28 Water St. East Providence, RI; Fee: $15/member; $20/non-member. Ages 9 and up. Register online through the events calendar at www.asri.org.

What Kind of Tree is Growing Near Me?
Audubon Caratunk Wildlife Refuge, Seekonk, MA
August 4, 2019; 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Come learn the basics of tree ID and learn what trees grow in your yard or park! This fun family program will run indoors as well as out on the wildlife refuge, so dress appropriately for walking in the forest. Binoculars are encouraged. Please bring a Tree ID book if you have one. Snacks will be provided.

Explore the Wetlands with Audubon

Take a journey to the wetlands with Audu
bon and discover just how important this habitat is. Keep your eyes open for turtles, frogs and ducks. Explore the water with nets and basins, and then use magnifying glasses and guide books to identify what you find. Will it be a tadpole? A dragonfly nymph? Snail eggs? Wear clothes that can get dirty. Adults must accompany children.

Bird Banding with Audubon

Join Audubon for a bird banding demonstration. Birds will be gently removed from tall “mist nets” set in Audubon’s shrubby habitats. The techniques of identifying, measuring, weighing, and banding the birds will be demonstrated before they are released. The migratory habits and life history of each captured species will be discussed.

Pond Dippin’ with Audubon
Audubon Powder Mill Ledges Wildlife Refuge, Smithfield, RI
August 24, 2019; 2:00-3:30 pm

You may know that frogs and ducks and turtles live near ponds, but have you ever looked for the small creatures that live in the mud and skate across the water surface? Come along on this search for ALL the life of a pond. Use nets and magnifiers to check out pond plants and animals that often elude the naked eye. Come dressed for mud and wet. This program is designed for adults and children alike.
