John Barno

John Barno, 95, of Rehoboth, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, in the Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Rhode Island. He was the loving husband of the late Doris (Holland) Barno.

Born on July 20, 1923, in Berlin, N.J., he was a son of the late Frank and Anna (Hylwiak) Barno.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant until his discharge in 1946. During his service he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal.

John had been a resident of Rehoboth since 1966.

He worked as an engineer in the General Findings Division at Leach & Garner in Attleboro for more than 30 years. John also had a side business repairing televisions and radios in his home shop.

He was an avid animal lover and owned many dachshund dogs over the years.

John enjoyed fishing, gardening and coaching Little League baseball when his son played.

He was a former communicant of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Parish in South Attleboro and also a member of American Legion Post 302 in Rehoboth.

John is survived by his son, John M. Barno and his wife Patricia of Attleboro, his grandson, Jordan M. Barno of Attleboro, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his seven siblings: Stephen Barno, Katherine Leshay, Frank Barno, Mary Barno, Anna Lakatus, Helen Tomlinson, and Frances Wrotniewski.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. A funeral home service will be held immediately following the visitation at 2 p.m.

Burial with military honors will follow in the Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth.
