Covid Impact on Dighton-Rehoboth Schools

Posted

Dighton-Rehoboth Schools are now closed until January 8 due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in the region. Students will be learning remotely. In-person learning will resume on January 11.

Superintendent Anthony Azar said the district was currently assessing the impact the virus has had on staff and students.

A message about the closure was sent to parents on December 15:

“The weeks leading up to holiday break have been increasingly difficult due to the community spread of COVID-19,” Azar wrote. “We have had to close school buildings and school programs because of the impact of the virus. Through data analysis and collaboration between our nursing staff and local Boards of Health, we have identified an increase in COVID related absences due to illness and mandated quarantine periods.”

“Because of a significant increase in staff absences due to COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to transition to remote learning for all schools and programs beginning December 16.”

Azar said a Rapid Testing program is a possibility, noting the details were being worked out with the state. More information will be provided at the January 12 school committee meeting.
