Posted

Antoinette Marie (Castiglia) Powers, 97, of Rehoboth, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph James Powers who died on September 11, 2002.

Born on October 18, 1921 in Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Louise (Maynard) Castiglia.

Antoinette was a graduate of Attleboro High School. A loving Homemaker for her family, in her younger years she worked for the former L.G. Balfour Company and Texas Instruments. Later, while raising her family, and until she retired, she worked at Pleasant Pharmacy in Attleboro, where she spoke so often as having some of her favorite memories of being with the most wonderful people.

She was a resident of Attleboro for most of her life, where she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church before she moved to Rehoboth in 2008.

Antoinette was a woman of deep faith and of loving devotion to her family. She was an avid reader who enjoyed word search puzzles; travel, especially to Hawaii; baking; and visiting South Yarmouth on Cape Cod. She was a talented artist who delighted in teaching children oil painting. She also loved to knit and crochet. Antoinette especially enjoyed getting together with all of her best girlfriends for "Sewing Club" – a little sewing and a lot more fun. She loved being with people; enjoyed calling Bingo at the Attleboro Senior Center and at Hope Gardens; and held a special place in her heart for her cat, "Sadie". A warm and gracious woman with the sweetest of smiles, Antoinette truly had a wonderful life and truly loved being with her family.

She was the loving mother of Deborah Ann Sladen and her husband, Richard Sladen, of Sebastian, FL; Karen Joyce (Powers) Messier of Seekonk, MA, and her late husband, Ernest Albert Messier, who passed away on December 7, 2017; Doreen M. Powers of Attleboro, MA; and Pamela S. Cloud and her husband, John J. Cloud, of Rehoboth, MA. She was the proud grandmother of Melinda Credeur, Jennifer DiRenzo, Shannon Saumweber, and Lindsay Beausoleil; and the adoring great-grandmother of Nolan, Sophie, Isabella, Talan, Ruby, Blake, Benji, and Colson. Antoinette was the dear sister of Elena Carr of Seekonk, and her late husband, Martin Carr; and was predeceased by her siblings: John Castiglia and Rita Zarella. She leaves several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Friends and relatives are cordially invited to honor and remember Antoinette by gathering for a Visitation on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 6:30 p.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Kevin A. Cook of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Seekonk, MA.

A Private Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Attleboro, MA, at which time Antoinette will be laid to rest alongside her dear late husband, Joseph.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Antoinette to Beacon Hospice, 182 North Main Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
