Edward W. Cooney Jr., 69, of Rehoboth died Tuesday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Edward W. Sr and Marjorie (Sheridan) Cooney. He lived in Pawtucket for 30 years, previously living in Cranston before moving to Rehoboth.

Before retiring in 2016, he was employed as a truck driver for Owens and Minor Medical Supplies. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Mr. Cooney is survived by one son, David Cooney of Seekonk, two sisters, Marjorie Souza of Virginia and Patricia Clifford of Cranston, two brothers, Thomas Cooney of Palm Coast, Fla. and Richard Cooney of Cranston, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the former husband of Elise Reynolds of Pawtucket. He was the father of the late Edward W. Cooney III and Paul W. Cooney and was brother of the late Kathleen Russo and Maureen Cooney.

His Funeral will be held Tuesday Jan. 10 at 8:30 a.m. from the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux and Son, 1042 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Coyle Drive, Seekonk. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery Exeter. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend calling hours today, Monday Jan. 9 in the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m.
