Vacation Bible School at Evangelical Covenant Church

Posted

At ECC Riverside we have used Group Publishing’s VBS for many years. This year we discovered some glaring issues with their curriculum involving racial and cultural stereotypes, as well as an activity that could too easily lead to many unfortunate outcomes. We reached out to Group with our concerns and have decided to not use their VBS curriculum this year. We hope and believe that Group will take this opportunity to examine their blind-spots, learn, and grow. We are willing to do our part to aid them in that process.

At ECC Riverside, we are committed to recognizing our own blind-spots as we seek to reflect here on earth the Kingdom of God that is inclusive of every tribe, tongue, and nation. We celebrate the richness and diversity of God’s creation. We seek to honor and learn from cultures that are different from our own.  We know that we pursue this Kingdom reality imperfectly, but we are committed to pursuing it in Christ-honoring ways.

VBS will still be held June 24-28th utilizing a different curriculum. We look forward to helping the children in our community learn more about God’s love for them!

We would like to invite your kids (and their friends!) to a fabulous experience this summer! From June 24th-28th, 9AM-12:30 PM, the Evangelical Covenant Church of Riverside will be transformed into a roaring jungle as we present "ROAR! Life is wild! God is good!"

Our preschool program is for 4 and 5 yr. olds, while our elementary program is for graduating kindergartner through graduating 5th graders.   Older kids/teens/adults are welcome to be crew leaders. Pre-registration is required.

You will find more information at www.eccriverside.org/vbs.
