Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island is proud to announce the launch of “Together for Seniors,” a radio hour airing on News Radio 920 and 104.7 FM, hosted by Executive Director Meghan Grady.

The program, sponsored by Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, will air weekly on Sundays from 8-9 a.m. The first show will air this Sunday, Jan. 19 and continue through April 12.

“When we talk about how Meals on Wheels of RI addresses the unique needs of our state’s older adult population to help them remain living healthily and independently, we think about the best ways to reach them with education on the topics that most greatly impact their lives,” Grady said. “Together for Seniors will do just that—we’ll be engaging decision makers, community and business leaders and other key stakeholders who are working together to support this rapidly growing population.”

The show will also serve family members and other caregivers as they navigate how to care for aging relatives.

“It’s always a win-win when two organizations with similar missions have an opportunity to join forces and work collaboratively on a common goal,” said Brenda Seagrave-Whittle, vice president of marketing and communications at Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island. “While Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island focuses on providing nutritious meals and safety checks in the homes of seniors, one of Neighborhood’s focus areas is meeting the health care needs of seniors – so this radio show is an important initiative to rally around and one that can have a great impact on the health of seniors. We’re thrilled to be involved.”

Seagrave-Whittle added that Peter Marino, president and chief executive officer at Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island and board member of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island, supported “Together for Seniors” when it was introduced as a creative way to reach seniors and caregivers, and is proud of Neighborhood’s decision to sponsor the radio show.

Expert guests will be interviewed on topics including online security, community support, financial awareness, and the 2020 Census. A podcast of the show will be posted online after each airing.

The first airing will focus on the organization’s history and impact to the population it serves. Featured guests will be Paul Brown, son of Meals on Wheels of RI founder Joe Brown (1924-2014), Terry Capracotta, daughter of former MOWRI Home-Delivered Meal Program recipient Joseph Brisson—who received the organization’s 19th million meal in July 2019—and MOWRI driver Roger Richard.
