Swing To End Alzheimer’s Alzheimer’s Association Annual Golf Tournament

Posted

Providence, May, 2018 – This June, during Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month, the Alzheimer’s Association, Rhode Island Chapter will hold its annual golf tournament on June 21 at Newport National Golf Club.

Throughout the month of June, the community shows their support and raises awareness about Alzheimer’s disease by “going purple.” Each year, Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month provides the opportunity for communities and businesses to share their commitment to bring awareness to Alzheimer’s disease throughout the month and on The Longest Day held on the summer solstice. “There are 23,000 Rhode Islanders and 5.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, and that number is expected to dramatically increase, unless we find a cure or an effective way to slow down the onset of this devastating disease,” said Donna M. McGowan, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Rhode Island Chapter. “The annual golf tournament has a large impact on the support and care that is provided to Rhode Islanders affected by the country’s most worrisome disease. We are excited to be able to hold this year’s golf tournament at its new location; Newport National Golf Club,” said McGowan.

Join us and special guest, Michaela Johnson, Co-Host of The Rhode Show on WPRI 12 while we raise awareness and funds to benefit care and support, research and advocacy for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Registration opens at 11:30am with light fare. Shotgun start is at 1:00 pm. The tournament will end with a BBQ dinner and award ceremony. On-course happenings include air cannon shootout, hole-in-one and putting contest, longest drive, and closest to the pin. Cost is $175 per player or $650 for a foursome and includes a round of golf, prizes, and great food.
