By Bob Rodericks
Schools in East Providence and throughout most of Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts were closed Monday. Sections of East Providence were without power and many trees or tree limbs were downed by the strong winds.
According to the National Weather Service, Southern Rhode Island saw hurricane force winds at the storm's peak. Some winds were recorded at over 80 miles per hour.
The storm had subsided by Monday morning but many areas were without electricity and some streets remained flooded or blocked by downed trees.
Schools are expected to be open on Tuesday.
