Mrs. Rose Mary (Dundon) Thayer

Mrs. Rose Mary (Dundon) Thayer, age 78, a well-known and beloved member of the Tewksbury community, died peacefully on Thursday, March 2nd at the Blair House in Tewksbury, in the loving care of the staff and her family. She was the beloved wife for 47 years of Dale A. Thayer, who died in 2006.
Rose was born in East Providence, Rhode Island, on March 27th, 1938, one of five children of the late James W. and Rose D. (Erno) Dundon, and raised in Riverside. She and her late husband lived in Enfield, CT, and Bloomingburg, NY, before moving to Tewksbury in 1977, most recently in the Saunders Circle Community.
In addition to raising her family of four, she earned her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Tewksbury Hospital School of Nursing. She continued to Work at Tewksbury Hospital for years, until her retirement.
Rose loved her church, and served as a Eucharistic Minister, served on the Prayer Shawl Committee, and helped as a member of the St. William’s Men’s Club on Friday night Bingo for many years. She also served as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. William’s.
Rose was a daily visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Center, immediately recognizable by her outlandish hat collection, was a member of the Golden Age Club, and a member of the Red Hat Society.
She leaves a son, Stephen D. Thayer of Lynn; a daughter, Diane Andrews and her husband Scot of Pelham, NH; five grandchildren, Gary Thayer of Manchester, NH, Jack Thayer of CA, Dylan Andrews and Ryan Andrews both of Pelham, Jeffrey Thayer of Lynn; her siblings, Connie Fayan and her husband Joseph of Barrington, RI, Elaine Layton of Riverside, RI, James Dundon of Florida, and Michael Dundon of Hawaii; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dr. Walter Thayer III and his wife Meredith of Riverside, RI, Alan and Mary Ellen Thayer of WA, Marilyn and Robert Cote of VA, E. Barbara and David Monaghan of Wakefield, RI; her former daughter-in-law, Karen Remillard of NH; many nieces and nephews and dear friends; and was predeceased by her sons, Raymond L. and Daniel R. and her sister-in-law Nancy Meehan and brothers-in-law Judge Robert Meehan and William Layton; and her Godson Bill Layton.
Visiting hours Wednesday, Mar. 8, from 4:00 until 7:00 in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury Center, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Thursday, Mar. 9, at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will be in Tewksbury Cemetery.
