James Michael Rieth passed away March 15, 2017 at the Phillip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI at the age of 62.

Jim is survived by his wife Gayle Coughlin-Rhodes of East Providence, RI; his sons, Jason U. Rieth of Liverpool, NY, Jared L. Rhodes II of East Providence, RI and sisters Kathy Skrob, Linda Wells, Patty Faraci and Maureen Rieth of West Palm Beach, FL. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Schak-Rieth, his father Bernard "Whitey" Rieth and brother Bernard "Bernie" Rieth.

Jim was born on July 19, 1954 in College Point, NY. Following in his father's footsteps, he served the United States Navy from 1971 through 1975. Upon discharge, he joined his family in Southern Florida and worked in the marine trades for companies including Rybovich, Merritt and The Spencer Group.

In 1983 the America's Cup Challenge and a yacht named "Nomad" brought him to Newport, Rhode Island, where he met his wife, Gayle. Jim subsequently moved to Barrington, Rhode Island and joined Brewer Yacht Yards working for Cove Haven Marina until his retirement from the position of Service Manager.

Jim loved nothing more than to spend time with friends and family, particularly his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Throughout his lifetime, he had a genuine passion for the sea and would never turn down an opportunity to "wet a line". Jim was always ready to share with those he loved; whether it was his advice, his time, a laugh or a shoulder to lean upon. He will be deeply missed by many.

A seaside memorial service is being planned for early spring. For further details please RSVP to jamesmrieth@gmail.com.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the UNICEF Therapeutic Food Program. Donations assist children in need around the world while helping to employ Jim's fellow Rhode Islanders.
