Posted

Dancing to Haitian Rara and Congo with Mariela Dyer - a window into Haitian culture through dance – is a free community offering open to early-intermediate level dancers of high school age, and older. The workshop is a series of 4 classes on Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m., May 4, 11, 18 and 25. 20 participants are invited into the program - first come, first served. You will receive a confirmation email from Common Fence Music. And instructor, Mariela Dyer will be in contact via email before the first class with all necessary workshop information. Follow this Eventbrite link to register; https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dancing-to-haitian-rara-and-congo-with-mariela-dyer-tickets151110596863  or visit the Common Fence Music page on Facebook.

As the offering is free, Common Fence Music's only request is that if you sign up for the class, please come along. Common Fence Music's online dance workshops have been well received. You won't be disappointed, and you won't prevent another interested party from participating. Don't have us missing you now! Mariela is an exceptional talent and an engaging and personable teacher.

Mariela Dyer is a recent graduate of Wellesley College with a passion for African & Latin dance (and especially Afro-Latin dance!). A Miami-native, raised in an Ecuadorian-American household, she loves to share her appreciation for dance with the world. At Wellesley, she performed with the Yanvalou Dance and Drum Ensemble, both in Wellesley, MA and Mirebalais, Haiti. Her current dance focus is Afro-Haitian rhythms and movement, which she fell in love with while dancing and drumming in Haiti in January of 2019. A lifelong dancer of many different styles, she is an advocate for using dance as a practice to bring more joy into daily life.

Common Fence Music is pleased once again to work with Looking Upwards Creative Communities Collaborative to get the word out and to offer inclusive opportunities for all. CCC is committed to serving the rich cultural diversity of our immediate neighborhood, city and state through a wide variety of affordable and free classes, events and programs.

This program is a feature of The Jedd Sullivan Memorial Series. Common Fence Music is a Rhode Island-based 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization whose mission it is to celebrate and preserve diverse folk music traditions by creating community-based opportunities for cultural exchange.
