Cinderella for a Night!

Townie Duo Donating Prom Dresses

Posted

"It's not a charity, we certainly don't want to embarrass anyone, but let's face it, prom dresses can be very expensive," said school library secretary and Townie graduate, Christine Alves. Alves, who works at Riverside Middle School and East Providence High School English teacher, Diana Lee have quietly obtained a collection of nearly new or new prom dresses to donate to EPHS girls. "We have close to 60 dresses ready to donate," said Alves. "We have a large variety of styles and sizes, something for everyone. On Friday, April 6th, Alves and Lee are hosting a "Dress a Townie" event from 2pm to 4pm in room 147 at the high school. "Any East Providence High School student is welcome to stop by and select a dress. We'll have pizza and music and it will be an informal, fun time," said Alves.

"There is still time to donate a dress if anyone wants to help," said Alves. "All girls are welcomed to come get a dress. There are no restrictions, just that it be for an EPHS kid. If we can make one girl feel like Cinderella for a night, it will be worth it." Alves and Lee want to keep the event a low key, fun day. The two have politely avoided any corporate or organized type attention. They have relied on colleagues and friends for donations and word of mouth notice.

Donations can be dropped off to Diana Lee at the high school or to Christine Alves at Riverside Middle School between 7:30pm and 1:45 pm.
