Board The Explorer this Summer for Tours of Providence Harbor & Seekonk River

Posted

Pawtucket, RI – The Explorer, Blackstone Valley Tourism Council's (BVTC) 40-passenger educational vessel, is excited to announce that starting Sunday, July 7 we will continue our summer public tour season from Al’s Waterfront Restaurant in East Providence. We will offer guided Nature & Heritage Tours every Sunday afternoon at 1 PM, 2 PM, 3PM and 4 PM through Sunday, September 1, 2019. Tickets start at just $10.

Join us on the Explorer as we tour Providence Harbor at the entrance of the Providence River. On calm days, the boat will pass through the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier and catch great views of the beautiful Providence skyline.

As we come about, we travel up the Seekonk River and pass under the Washington Bridge, the historic turnpike that enabled easier access from Providence, RI to New Bedford, MA.

Upriver toward Pawtucket, the Explorer passes by the Crook Point Bascule Bridge (“the Stuck-up Bridge”). A changing landscape delivers opportunities to see eastern shore birds like Osprey, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Double-Crested Cormorant, and an occasional American Bald Eagle feeding, flying, and resting.

When not offering public tours, the Explorer is available for private charters, making it an ideal activity for school
groups, fundraising events and other business functions for an informative or fun experience in the Blackstone River Valley!

Throughout the season, Explorer River Tours will depart from different sites around Blackstone Valley, with uniquely programmed tours at each location.
Summer/Fall 2019 Explorer dock schedule:
July 7 to Sept. 1: Al’s Waterfront Restaurant, 28 Water St., East Providence, RI

Making its debut in the summer of 1993, as part of the bicentennial celebration of the American Industrial Revolution, the Explorer riverboat is the only vessel designed to travel along segments of the Blackstone River system and has become a prominent icon throughout the Blackstone River Valley.
