Amid Challenges of Pandemic, Assumption Students Excel Academically, Named to Dean's List
Worcester, MA -- Assumption University has announced those students named to the University's Dean's List for the fall 2020 semester. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 for a five-class, 15-credit semester to be included on the prestigious list, which is announced at the completion of the fall and spring semesters. Due to the pandemic, this fall semester was divided into two accelerated seven-week terms.
Local students include:
Sydney Vilardi of Riverside (02915), Class of 2021
Abigail Whittum of East Providence (02914), Class of 2021
"This semester, our students faced unprecedented challenges due to the global pandemic," said Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D., president of Assumption College. "Following a rapid transition to remote learning, students adapted to the new form of education delivery amid difficult circumstances. The Assumption community is proud of these students who, despite the distractions of the COVID-19 situation, were able to remain focused and maintain a commitment to their academic programs."
An Assumption education prepares students to succeed in a continuously changing world and for jobs that do not yet exist. Steeped in the liberal arts tradition, students studying at Assumption are exposed to a broad range of disciplines in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences as they explore fundamental questions characteristic of the liberal arts, while also learning best-practices and developing valuable communication and critical-thinking skills, traits sought after by employers in nearly every industry. A combination of classroom theory and hands-on learning through internships, participation in community service, or one of the more than 60 on-campus clubs and organizations help students develop into leaders who will make a difference in the communities in which they live and work.
