SOCKtober at Orlo: An Amazing Feat!

Posted

When you give the Orlo Avenue School community a challenge, watch out because they will accept it and surpass their own goals! Last year’s SOCKtober was such an amazing success, they knew they could warm even more feet this year. With a goal of 2,000 pairs of socks (double last year’s collection) they had 22 school days to fill the boxes. Word got out about their goal and socks were coming in left and right. The entire East Providence community came together to help including the East Providence High School football team who held their own sock drive and delivered over 200 pairs of socks to the students at a morning meeting the last week of collection. What an amazing lesson for the students of Orlo, kindness is contagious! Not only did they achieve their goal but they surpassed it by collecting 2,367 pairs of socks! Socks were donated to Crossroads Rhode Island, Fifty Three: Five nonprofit organization in EP, and Hope and Faith Drive.

Orlo Avenue also held its annual food drive in November and collected 1,046 cans in 5 days! These food items were delivered to Hope and Faith Drive, Bread of Life Food Pantry as well as the Fifty Three: Five nonprofit organization. Once again the community heard about their good deed and cans were arriving on their doorstep on a daily basis. In the month of December the students at Orlo will be creating and sending holiday cards to those in the East Providence community. Would you like your senior community or other organization to receive holiday cards? Email Orlo Avenue at jlodge@epschoolsri.com. by December 10th and they will put your organization on their holiday card list.
