Moses Brown Announces Ron Woodley of East Providence as New Track Coach

Posted

Providence – Moses Brown School is pleased to announce Ronald Woodley as the new head coach of the Quakers’ track program. Woodley will be a tremendous addition to Moses Brown’s track program. He served as the school’s assistant coach last year and is himself an elite athlete, currently training for the U.S. Olympics (in the triple jump, with trials to be held in June 2016).

Woodley was a standout in track and field at the University of Rhode Island (Division 1). A 2013 graduate of URI, he majored in kinesiology and competed in the triple jump, long jump, 60m dash, 100m dash, and 4x100m relay. While at URI, Woodley was captain of the men’s track and field team. Specializing in the triple jump, he was a NCAA national qualifier, a three-time Atlantic 10 Conference champion, and a two-time New England champion. In his senior year, Woodley received the university’s Albert LeBoeuf Award, given to the most outstanding student-athlete for being a role model throughout his college career.

At MB, Woodley has already coached four high school record holders in both individual and relay events. He has also coached at Hope High School and has interned with the Providence Cobras Track Club.

Woodley replaces previous head coach Peter Vigue, who is retiring. Coach Vigue led the program to five consecutive SENE and Doc Odell championships during his tenure, assisted by Woodley. Moses Brown School has a long history of track success in Rhode Island with longtime faculty member and track coach King “Doc” Odell inducted into the R.I. Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame just this year.

The Quakers open their 2015-2016 track season on November 30 at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, competing against La Salle Academy and Central High School.

Founded in 1784, Moses Brown School is an independent, college preparatory school in Providence, Rhode Island, enrolling 775 boys and girls, nursery through grade 12. The school's founder – an innovative thinker, philanthropist, and entrepreneur named Moses Brown – envisioned a progressive school that defined excellence. Today, his Quaker school continues to help children reach their full potential, and to do both well and good in the world. For more information, see www.mosesbrown.org.
