Several hours after the East Providence High School girls basketball team lost to Johnston High in the Div II State Title game at Rhode Island College on Saturday March 4th, EP head coach Michael Solitro was arrested for domestic simple assault. East Providence Police charged Solitro, a middle school teacher in the city, with hitting his wife.

Solitro, 36, was arrested at his Rumford home at 1 a.m. After arraignment he was released on personal recognizance. He has been placed on administrative paid leave by the school administration, while the police are conducting an investigation.

Mr. Solitro could not be reached for comment. The girls team is about to enter into the open division basketball championship tournament. Athletic Director Gregg Amore has announced that Assistant Coach Zache Roche will coach the team. Joining Roche on the Townies bench will be Assistant Athletic Director and veteran softball coach Rob Traverse. Traverse is also a former longtime high school freshman basketball coach.
