Rumford – The Blackstone Valley Spinners 14U Diamond team recently won the New England Amateur Athletic Union (NEAAU) 14U Diamond Championship by defeating the RI Eagles 3-0 at Glenlyon Field in Rumford.

The Spinners 11-man roster includes the following East Providence players: Ben Kailher, Colby Paiva, Matt Pimental, Nathan Pimentel, Joey Rego and Deyshawn Tengbeh.

The #6 seeded Spinners earned the title by beating the top 3 seeds in the tournament. The Spinners defeated the East Cobb Expos (#3) 9-4 in pool play to advance to the NEAAU semi-finals. In the semis the Spinners faced a strong Northeast Gators (#1) squad and battled to a 5-3 win.

In the Championship game the Spinners matched up against a fierce RI Eagles (#2) lineup. The Spinners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and added two runs late, to solidify the 3-0 win. The game featured great pitching and solid defense, including a fifth inning bases-loaded, no out situation that the Spinners worked their way out of, with two strikeouts and a ground out.

“The team started believing in themselves during our playoff run and everyone in the lineup contributed to the championship…it was truly a team effort.” said Spinners Manager Chris Kailher of Rumford. “We had our ups ands downs during the season, but the players stayed focused on our pre-season goal of winning the championship."
