2018 East Providence Day of Portugal

Posted

(East Providence, RI) The City of East Providence held its Annual Day of Portugal Flag Raising and Celebration on June 5, 2018 at the East Providence City Hall. The event was a great success and was well attended by members of the RI Day of Portugal Committee, as well as local members of the community and dignitaries. We were honored to have both National Anthems song by Alan Costa and Andrea Vargas, and poetry read by Rachel Pereira an EPHS junior in Mrs. Ana Melo's Portuguese class. Special thanks to those businesses who donations contributed to the festivities, Dunkin Donuts on John Street, Madeira Restaurant, Phillips Street Hall Restaurant, Taunton Avenue Bakery, Riviera Restaurant and the participation of the Portu-Galo Food Truck. In addition, I'd like to acknowledge the East Providence Chief of Police, Police Department and Honor Guard for their participation both at the city’s event and on Sunday downtown at the RI Day of Portugal parade. Other notable guest's consistent of the East Providence Fire Chief, City Building and Maintenance Employees, a long with other city employees. I would again like to acknowledge and congratulate Alison Batty for her winning logo design above that will be used for all future representation of our city's Day of Portugal celebration. It continues to be my pleasure to host community events within our city promoting Townie Pride. ~ ~Anna Sousa Ward 2 Councilwoman ~
