Women’s Resource Center offers Peer Support Group for Victims of Domestic Violence

Posted

The Women’s Resource Center serving Newport and Bristol Counties is offering a confidential peer support group for female victims of domestic violence.

Beginning May 23, 2019, this group will meet for six weeks each Thursday morning from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Women’s Resource Center’s Newport office located at 114 Touro Street. Pre-registration for this closed group is required by calling (401) 846-5263 to reserve a space.

“This support group offers an empowering and open environment for women to support other women who have been impacted by domestic violence,” states Lori N. DiPersio, executive director of the Women’s Resource Center. “Violence can take many forms, including physical, verbal, sexual, emotional, and financial. One common denominator in all forms of abuse is the isolation and low self esteem that victims face. This peer group is a valuable resource to help them overcome trauma and regain their confidence. We want victims to know that they are not alone.”

In addition to support groups, the Women’s Resource Center provides shelter, educational programming, advocacy, intervention and prevention services thanks generous donors, grants and foundations that provide financial support. These include the van Beuren Charitable Foundation, John Clarke Trust, Barrington District Nurses, Bristol Female Society, and the Herbert and Daisy Stride Foundation.
