Wilfred H. Atkinson

Wilfred H. Atkinson, 91, of Austin Avenue passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Gloria M. (Matthews) Atkinson. Mrs. Atkinson passed away 24 hours after her husband on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at her home. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Fred and Doris (Hallowel) Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was a school teacher for the Middletown School Department before he retired. He was also the owner & operator, along with his wife, of Bluenose Fish & Chips. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Besides his wife he leaves one son, Scott Atkinson and his wife Margo of Taunton, one daughter in law, Tina Atkinson and six grandchildren, Courtney Fiore and her husband Matt, Meredith Atkinson and her fiancé Garrett Riel, Steven Atkinson, Laurie Atkinson, Tyler Atkinson and Mario Wilson. He was the father of the late David Atkinson and brother of the late Virginia Zinn. His funeral service and his wife’s funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM in Grace Episcopal Church, 175 Mathewson Street, Providence. Calling hours will be one-hour prior from 10-11 AM in the church. Burial with Military Honors will be in Swan Point Cemetery.
