Theodore Henry Vanner, Jr., aged 90, died February 6, 2020, at Linn Nursing Home in East Providence, RI. Born May 2, 1929, in Johnston, RI, he was the son of the late Theodore H. Vanner, Sr. and the late Louise (Beliveau) McCormack. Ted was married for more than 64 years to Elizabeth M. (Fontes) Vanner and was a long-time East Providence resident. He was the father of six children: Diane (Glenn) Steinberg, Elizabeth (Joseph O’Connor) Vanner, Paul Vanner, Phillip (Darcie) Vanner, Patricia (Peter) Lindley, and the late Michael (Irene) Vanner. He leaves eleven grandchildren Alexander and Frederick Steinberg of New Jersey, David O’Connor of Florida, Andrew (Gabriella) Vanner of New York, William and Katlin Vanner of Rhode Island, Lily, Lola and Lila Vanner of Minnesota, and Peter and Jon Lindley of Rhode Island, great-grandsons Colton and Jaiden Lindley of Rhode Island, as well as numerous nephews and nieces to whom he was very close. He was the brother of Kathleen (Roger) Ramm of Florida and was predeceased by his siblings Alyce Harrington, Theodora Conboy, Kenneth and Thomas Vanner.

Ted worked for the City of East Providence as a water facilities operator before his retirement in 1991. He also served in the Army Air Corps/Air Force in 1947-1949 as a RADAR technician. A life-long fan of local sports, he followed the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, Celtics, and college teams regularly. He was a regular bowler at East Providence Lanes. It is said that when an elderly person dies, a library is lost. Ted was known for his numerous stories, trivia, facts and information, with which he would fascinate family and friends for hours. A large chunk of 20th century history has passed with him, and he will be sorely missed.

His funeral will begin on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 9AM from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.
