Tax Filing Assistance Available
East Bay Community Action Program's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will once again have certified IRS tax preparers available to provide free income tax preparation for taxpayers earning under $60,000.
Preparers also help taxpayers to receive tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, and Tax Credits for the Elderly.
Even if you are not required to file a federal income tax return but live in a dwelling subject to property tax, you may be eligible for the Rhode Island Property Tax Relief Credit -if you are over age 65 and earn under $30,000. Details regarding income guidelines can be found at irs.gov.
A VITA site is located at the Robert Rock Senior Center Breed Hall annex building, 610 Waterman Avenue, East Providence, RI, and it operates there on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 AM-3 PM. Another VITA site is located at the Benjamin Church Center, 1020 Hope Street, Bristol, RI, and it operates there on Thursdays and Fridays, 8 AM-4 PM.
Please don’t call the Benjamin Church Senior Center or the Robert Rock Senior Center. Appointments can only be scheduled by calling East Bay Community Action Program’s Office of Volunteer Services at 401-435-7876 ext. 1137.
Please visit ebcap.org for a complete list of documents to bring to your tax appointment. Please note that among other required documents, a valid Driver’s License/Photo ID for the taxpayer and social security cards for the taxpayer and all dependents are mandatory when seeking tax filing assistance through VITA.
