Scott D. Grace Firefighter and paramedic, Scott D. Grace, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. He was 44.

A devoted father of three, Scott was a regular presence at Boy Scout meetings, Seekonk Majorette competitions and the Shooting Star School of Dance. While his own children were the focus of his life, he also rejoiced in his nine nieces and nephews and the children of his countless friends. A musician, he played professionally in a series of local bands. He named his favorite, The Broadway Bad Boys, in honor of the East Providence fire house where he served for almost two decades.

Scott was a proud member of the East Providence Fire Department and dedicated much of his professional life to providing life-saving care on Rescue 1. He completed special training at the National Honor Guard Academy and participated in the East Providence Fire Department Honor Guard, honoring the lives and work of his fellow firefighters. He recently completed the rigorous requirements to become a Nationally Registered Paramedic, one of only a handful to ever earn that certification in his department.

He is survived by his children, David, Sara and Nina Grace, all of East Providence, his mother, Sheila A. Grace of East Providence, his father, Robert J. Grace of Warwick, his sister, Jennifer Grace Miller of Ipswich, MA, his brothers, Peter F. Grace of Smithfield and Timothy R. Grace of Central Falls, as well as his adoring nieces and nephews, his brother-in-law, sisters-in-law and his partner on Rescue 1, John Potvin of Coventry. He was the former husband of Diane Lemos Grace of Seekonk, MA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM in St. Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 3-8 PM in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, a donation to benefit his children may be made to the Scott Grace Memorial Fund at any Washington Trust branch.
