Romano J. “Romeo” Del Rossi
Romano J. “Romeo” Del Rossi, 99, formerly of Rumford Towers and of Fletcher St., Rumford, passed away Thursday evening January 3, 2019 at Waterview Villa. He was the beloved husband of the late Adele (Stavolone) Del Rossi.
Born Oct. 17, 1919, in Seekonk, MA, he was a son of the late Antonio and Angelina (Cristinzio) Del Rossi. He was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Loreto Church where he served as lector and eucharistic minister. He was a 55-year member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree.
Romeo was a proud and humble US Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 43rd Division in Guadalcanal, Northern Solomon Islands, New Guinea and Luzon. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with Arrowhead and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star. He was a life member of the Italian-American War Vets where he served as the past President, State Director, and national Commander, a member of the Sgt. Nicholas Monteleone Post 5 VFW and the Primmer-Cordeiro Post 5385 VFW, where he served as past Commander and District Commander.
He is survived by his children, Angela Antonian and her husband Dr. Thomas Antonian of East Providence, Cleonice Monti of Glocester and Michael Del Rossi of Sarasota, FL; four grandchildren, Alexa, Sacha, Ronald and Laura; and 8 great grandchildren, Daelen, Gianna, Jack, Kayla, Kamden, Kaesen, Jared, and Juliana. He was father-in-law of the late Ralph Monti, and the brother of the late Theresa, Gabriel, Gaetano and Joseph Del Rossi.
His funeral will begin Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 9am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Loreto Church, Waterman Ave., East Providence. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, 5pm until 8pm.
