Raymond W. Gadouas, of Dyer Avenue Riverside died Saturday July 15, 2017. He was the husband of Eleanor “Ellie” Grant Gadouas and they have been married 59 years. Born in Providence a son of the late Raymond and Julia (Hollis) Gadouas he lived most of his life in Riverside. Ray joined the East Providence Police Department in 1950 as a Special Officer, became full time in 1955, and throughout his career served in all divisions receiving numerous commendations, attending the FBI Law Enforcement Training School, graduated from the Institute of Applied Sciences in Scientific Crime Detection, was certified in Digital Doppler Radar and completed the National Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice courses. Earlier in his career he was in charge of the Vandal Squad and was particularly effective in dealing with the youth of East Providence with his extensive knowledge of the people and the area he served in. He served as a member of the Pistol Team, the SWAT Team and the Affirmative Action Committee of the Department and the Coastal Management Committee. He retired in 1986 as Patrol Commander’s Aide receiving citations from the City as well as the State of RI. He was a past president and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the E.P. Police Beneficial Association and Past Treasurer of FOP Lodge #1. He was active in community affairs as well; reorganizing Cub Scout Pack #1 and Boy Scout Troop #1 in Riverside, a member of the Rehoboth Lions Club serving as 1st Vice President and on the Board of Directors and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award from LCIF. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII then served as a Sgt. In the US Army for 3 years and was a member of the American Legion Post #302 in Rehoboth. Besides his wife he leaves a son, Raymond Gadouas III and his wife Cecilia of East Providence and a brother Richard A. Gadouas of Pawtucket. He was also the brother of Ruth Mayforth and the late Claire Gadouas.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday July 19, 2017 at 10AM in Saints Matthew and Mark Episcopal Church, 5 Chapel Road, Barrington, RI 02806. Calling hours will be held Tuesday July 18, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM in Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside, RI 02915. Burial with military honors will be in Olivet Cemetery in Riverside, RI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Rehoboth Lions Club, PO Box 633, Rehoboth, MA 02769 would be appreciated.
