The Providence Singers will celebrate the return to live performance by offering a free performance of Brahms Requiem on November 7. The Singers will also join the Rhode Island Philharmonic for performances of Handel’s Messiah and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. —The Providence Singers will present a free performance of Johannes Brahms’ Eine Deutsches Requiem on Sunday, November 7 at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. Christine Noel conducts this beloved choral masterwork with John Black at the organ. The Singers will be joined by baritone soloist Dana Whiteside and soprano Sarah Yanovitch. The Requiem will also be performed on Saturday, November 6 at 7:00 at St. Mary’s Parish Church in Bristol, RI. For reservation and ticket information, please visit www.ProvidenceSingers.org
“Having been away from performance for 18 months, our singing will hold more meaning than ever,” says Dr. Noel. “I can think of no piece that better represents an acknowledgement of loss while looking toward a brighter future than the Brahms Requiem.”

This season’s performance of Handel’s Messiah will be presented on Sunday, December 12 at the Vets, Bramwell Tovey conducting. Tickets are available through the Rhode Island Philharmonic box office.

The Providence Singers will celebrate 50 years of choral singing on March 5 with a concert at Grace Episcopal Church in Providence. The program includes J.S. Bach’s Magnificat, Heinrich Schütz’s Musikalische exequien, and a world premiere of “We Two Alone,” a new work by Julian Wachner, all accompanied by the Providence Baroque Orchestra.

A concert of Broadway Favorites comes to McVinney Auditorium on Sunday, April 3 with an afternoon of music and dance. Vocal soloists include acclaimed bass-baritone Kevin Deas and Providence’s own Brad Kleyla, tenor. We’ll also be joined by dancers from the State Ballet of Rhode Island.

The season ends with two performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Rhode Island Philharmonic on May 6 and 7, Bramwell Tovey conducting.

“We are eager to bring a new musical season to Rhode Island,” said Dr. Noel, “and we look forward to sharing the stage with our friends in the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Providence Baroque Orchestra, and the State Ballet of Rhode Island. We hope you’ll join us!”
