Phyllis E. (Brown) Plante, 89, of Rumford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, with her beloved husband, Charlie at her side. Phyllis was born on July 7, 1928 in Dodgeville, MA. She was the first daughter born to Bill and Mary (Campbell) Brown. Phyllis spent her childhood in Pawtucket and graduated from the former Pawtucket East High School (William E. Tolman High School). She attended the former Tabard-Hubbard School and began working as an office assistant at Seekonk Lace Company, Pawtucket in 1952. Phyllis met the love of her life, Charlie Plante, in 1951 at Rhodes Ball Room, Cranston, and were married on September 24, 1955 at St. Ann Church, Cranston. Together they made their home in Pawtucket and later settled in Rumford in 1975 where they presently reside. Phyllis and Charlie loved the ocean, taking long drives around their beautiful state, dining, old movies and dancing. Stories of their young romance are peppered with big bands, beaches and ball rooms. Of late they enjoyed taking rides to Colt State Park in Bristol; Newport, and Jamestown where they frequented many of the iconic diners and restaurants along this path. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charlie, and her dear sister, Ruth (Brown) Duffy in Wisconsin as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives and dear friends. Services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at William W. Tripp Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Interment will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
