Peck Center AARP Safe Driving Program

Peck Center, formerly Barrington Senior Center, 281 County Road, Barrington, RI is hosting this Smart Driving Program.

The curriculum contains the latest research & industry insights and exciting new topics. The class workbook is easy to follow. The associated video enhances the program. A few the subjects reviewed are:

. Learned research-based safety strategies that can reduce the likelihood of having a crash.
. Learn how aging, medications, alcohol, and other health-related issues affect driving ability, and ways to adjust to allow for these changes.
. Increase confidence.
. Review various aspects of the "Move over law."
. Review 10 Little-Known Rhode Island Motor Vehicle Laws.
. Know how to drive safely when sharing the road with other road users.
. Review typical challenges for older drivers, such as:
. Making left turns , especially at intersections
. Failing to yield the right of way
. Merging into another traffic lane
. Learn when driving may no longer be safe.

The fees are $5.00 for AARP members and $20.00 for non-members. There are no tests! Advance registration is required. The program is open to all.

If an insurance discount is one of your objectives, please check with your insurance company to determine if you qualify for a discount if you complete this program. It is suggested that you take a snack and beverage to this class! To register, please call the Peck Center at 401-247-1926.
