Posted

Smithfield – On Saturday, September 11th at 11am, the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) invites you to join them for a serene paddle on the upper Woonasquatucket River, on Stillwater Pond! This paddle trip is part of the 2021 “Explore the Woonasquatucket” recreational series which offers guided tours of beautiful and historic sites throughout the Woonasquatucket River watershed, with paddle trips, hikes, and bike rides -- while following State Covid-19 guidelines. Check out the full schedule at www.WRWC.ORG/EVENTS

This paddle will take you through the “narrows of the Woonasquatucket,” under the historic Smithfield Viaduct and up towards the dam at Stillwater Reservoir. This is a beautiful and serene paddle – a great way to ring in Autumn!

The WRWC will provide canoes, kayaks, paddles and personal floatation devices (PFDs), or paddlers can bring their own boats. Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult. The cost is $50/canoe, $30/kayak. If using your own boat, the price is $20/person. On all trips, PFDs are required for all paddlers. Online registration is easy! Visit www.wrwc.org/events.  Advance sign-up is required.

After the paddle, head up the road to Revive the Roots (RTR), who are celebrating 10 years of work in the Smithfield community. RTR is a community farm project that’s located on the public land of Mowry Commons, which sits right up the hill from the Woonasquatucket River. The 10-year celebration will run from Sept. 9th-11th with family fun, including puppet theater, a garden tasting, food, music & art! more information about this celebration and RTR’s work can be found here: https://revivetheroots.org/

This series is generously funded by the Cricket Foundation and generous donor support. Visit www.WRWC.ORG/EVENTS  to see the full “Explore the Woonasquatucket” recreational series schedule.
