Mary J. (Canning) Richardson

Mary J. (Canning) Richardson, 95, of Rumford, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late John W. Richardson, Jr. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Margaret M. (Hayden) Canning, she resided in Rumford since 1947.

Mary was a 1941 graduate of St. Xavier Academy, Cranston and 1943 graduate of the former Edgewood Junior College. She served on the Annual Giving Committee of Providence Country Day School; former board member at St. Dunstan’s Day School; member of the Women & Infants Corporation and a volunteer, board member and member of the former Memorial Hospital of RI Corporation. Mary was also a former member of the Wannamoisett Country Club, Rumford and a member of Hazards Beach Club, Newport for fifty-two years.

She leaves four sons, John W. Richardson, III of Barrington, Philip M. Richardson and Neil T. Richardson both of North Attleboro and Gary F. Richardson of Barrington; nine grandchildren, Kelley A., Jenna M., Melanie B., Katie E., Troy W., Ian G., Trevor A., Lyle J. and Dana M. Richardson and three great-grandchildren, Layla Grace Richardson, Killian Stone Richardson and John Warren Richardson. She was the sister of the late Edward, Joseph P., Jr. and Robert J. Canning.

Services will be private followed by interment at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Bethany Home of Rhode Island, 111 South Angell St., Providence, RI 02906 would be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to William W. Tripp Funeral Home, Pawtucket.
