Marion E. (Carlson) Wimpling, age 84, of Sutton Ave., East Providence died on December 31, 2018, after an 11-year illness with Alzheimer’s Disease at home with her loving family by her side.

Born in Newton, MA, she was a daughter of the late James S. MacDonald and the late Greta C. (Clish) MacDonald. Marion graduated from Joseph Case High School in 1953 and graduated from Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Miriam Hospital for 29 years. Marion loved her work and enjoyed making her patients smile with her holiday costumes and her infectious whit! She received certificates for her volunteer work at the YMCA where she was a member, loved to exercise and participate in water aerobics. She loved to travel and take cruises, loved nature and gardening and was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan.

She is survived by her children; Jayne Carlson and Kim Caisse both of East Providence, Don Carlson and his fiancée Susan Gorski of Lackawanna, NY, Scott Carlson and his wife Ann Carlson of Seekonk, MA, Keri Wimpling of East Providence and of the late Robert Carlson. She leaves her former daughter-in-law Lauren Carlson of Taunton and her grandchildren; Derek Johnson and his wife Kate, Chelsea Carlson, Keith Carlson, Sean Carlson, Robert Carlson, James Carlson, Emily Alexander, Megan and her husband Donald Martin, Kelsey Killian and Andrew Killian, her great greatgrandchildren; Blake Johnson, Drew Johnson and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 grandchildren; Michael Carlson and Geoffrey Alexander II. She is the sister of Kathleen” Kay” G. Moody-Merriweather of NH, Dorothy Swarm of NC, Margreta Munroe of Barrington and predeceased by James W. MacDonald, Chester M. MacDonald, Leslie W. MacDonald Gwendolyn “Jean” Madeiros.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Calling Hours on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 1:00-4:00pm at the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marion’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman St. #306, Providence, RI 02906.
