Marie Lauro, 92 of Providence died on January 10, 2019 at Tockwotton on the Waterfront, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Carl G. Lauro.

Born in Providence on August 21, 1926 to Domenico and Amelia (nee Altobello) Colarusso. Marie was a graduate of Central High School. Upon graduation, she held administrative assistant positions at both UNCAS manufacturing, and later years with the Providence School Department until her retirement.

Marie loved art, and through the years studied with Eugene Tonoff and Carolyn Simon. Her art was exhibited at various venues including the Federal Hill Art Festival and the Providence Art Club.

Beginning in 1987, Marie began volunteering at the Family AIDS Center for Treatment (FACTS), AIDS Care Ocean State caring for infants born with HIV/AIDS. In 1999, she received the FACTS volunteer of the year award.

She is survived by her best friend and sister, Anna P. Campagnone of Narragansett and her children, Maria L. Moran of Bristol, Michael P. Lauro of Providence, Peter C. Lauro of Providence, Bianca L. Volles of Narragansett and Carl G. Lauro Jr. of New York City.

Marie was devoted to her 5 children, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She lived a life full of celebration; she always loved a party. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe with her family.

Calling hours will be held at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Ave, Cranston, RI on Monday, January 14 from 4-7pm.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius V Church, 55 Elmhurst Avenue in Providence on Tuesday, January 15 at 10:00 am. At the request of the family, burial services are private.
