Maria Mauricia (Quadros) Azevedo, 93, of East Providence, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. She was the wife of the late Antonio F. Azevedo, Jr.

Born in Angústias, Faial, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Francisco and Palmira (Jorge) Quadros.

Mrs. Azevedo was a lacemaker and a skilled seamstress in the Azores before she immigrated to the United States in 1962. Maria was a great cook and was well known for her bread pudding during the holidays. She liked to write poetry and would write special poems for each of her children’s birthdays. Maria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved being surrounded by her family.

She leaves five daughters, Maria Andrade and her husband José of East Providence, Adelina Axelrod of Bristol, Paula Azevedo of East Providence, Linda Castelli and her husband Kenneth of Cranston and Palmira Azevedo of Warwick, one son, Antonio F. Azevedo, III and his wife Maria of North Providence, five grandchildren, Caroline Axelrod, Alexandra Azevedo, Antonio Azevedo, IV, Nicholas and Olivia Castelli, one sister, Clara Dos Vas of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Zulmira Vieria and Eduardo Quadros.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 10:00 AM in St. Paul Church, 30 Warwick Avenue, Cranston. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 would be appreciated. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
