Manuel Tavares Jr., 93, of Bay Spring Ave. Barrington and formerly of East Providence died December 22, 2020 at the Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Moura) Tavares. He was a son of the late Manuel and Belbina (Brazil) Tavares.

He retired as an insurance agent from Prudential Insurance and was a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable. He had previously worked as a service repair man for Hotpoint/General Electric. He proudly served our nation with the Seabees during World War II.

Manuel touched the hearts of all who knew him. He was a family man, happy, kind and generous. His joy was spending time with his family. His family referred to him as the "Mayor". He was very talented musically, playing the guitar, piano, harmonica, and organ.

He is survived by his children, Bryan Tavares (Karen) of Bristol, Cynthia Smith (Michael) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Ruth Bryan of Riverside, Jeanne Raposa (Skip) of Sebring, FL, Kevin Tavares (Lisa) of Pawtucket, Janice Tavares (fiancé Bob Hill) of N. Kingstown, 13 grandchildren: Bryan Jr., Julieanne, Brooke, Gary, Rebecca, Jason, Kelly, Amy, Justin, Jessica, Kayla and 24 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his grandchildren, Matthew and Derek and late son-in-law Gene Bryan. He was predeceased by his siblings; Irene DiSano, Elaine Lenardo, Viollette Sheenan, Donald Tavares, Edward Tavares and Anthony Santos.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Calling Hours on Saturday from 9-10am in St. Francis Xavier Church, N. Carpenter St., East Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Because of COVID restrictions placed upon the Tavares family, committal prayers will be said in the church after mass. Burial will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
