June M. Harrington

Posted

June M. Harrington, 83, passed away on February 12, 2021 surrounded by family after a hard-fought battle with cancer which often left her alone due to the unconstitutional restrictions currently being forced upon our elderly in their darkest hour. Born on June 1st in Quincy, MA she was the daughter of the late Martha (Cushing) Harrington and Franklin D. Harrington and sister of the late Douglas F. Harrington, Sr. Raised in East Providence, Rhode Island, she graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing and went on to earn advanced degrees from NYU and Boston College, eventually working her way to Chief Nurse and Administrator for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

June had a wanderlust that defined her very being. She travelled to all seven continents and bravely visited China, Jerusalem and Moscow at the height of the Cold War. June was an author whose seminal work "American Nursing and the Failed Dream: A Critical Assessment of Nursing Education in America" is still used in academia today. She was also a frequent contributor to newspaper Commentary pages and cared greatly for the Republic of the United States of America. And, of course, for the New England Patriots, too.

Outliving her spouses, June is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, F. Dean Harrington of Rumford, Daniel F. Harrington of Warwick, Donna C. (Harrington) DiFilippo of Pawtucket and Douglas F. Harrington, Jr. of East Providence and their many children and spouses, who loved their venerated, yet quite eccentric aunt.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Donna C. DiFilippo for becoming caretaker, friend and daughter to June in her final days as well as her neighbors at Pasek Estates in Attleboro and the gentle angels of Hope Hospice. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers and like gestures the family respectfully asks you to consider writing a Letter to the Editor or similar action to buttress our Republic in these days of bewilderment. For this was June's passion.
