Joseph A. Estrella, 77, of East Providence, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia (Amaral) Estrella.

Born in Pawtucket, April 30, 1943, he was a son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Lamb) Estrella.

Joe proudly served in US Navy during the Cuban missile crisis.

He belonged to the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #17 for more than 35 years.

An avid boater, he loved fishing and quahogging. Joe earned his Captains license and was past Commodore of the Bourne Marina for many years. He was instrumental in the restoration of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse and had served as chairman of the board. He had also been an Explorers Scout Leader, a hockey coach and referee.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he leaves two children, Jeffrey Estrella and his wife Michele of Warwick and Jennifer Estrella of East Providence; two grandchildren, Joshua and Mikaela; and his great granddaughter, Aaliyah.

He was also the brother of Patricia Hill (Tom) of Melbourne, FL, Thomas Estrella (Beverly) of Cumberland, late Alice Valerio. Brother in law of Andy Valerio.

His funeral will be private with burial at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery.

Relatives and friends will gather in the future for a Memorial Mass.
