Helena R. Baptista (Ramos), “Harney”, 91, of East Providence, died peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2020 at the Bethany Home, Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew L. Baptista.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Augustinho and Maria (Lopes) Ramos. She lived in Fox Point until 1965.

Helen worked for the East Providence School Department as a teachers aide until retiring in 1993. She had previously worked in the manufacturing industry.

She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church. She was a member of the former Curleretts. She was an avid sports fan of The New England Patriots and basketball. She enjoyed dining out, gaming activities, going to Jerusalem Beach in her earlier years, traveling, especially her summer vacations in Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard where she truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Family was everything to Helen. While, holidays were particularly special, there was always a warm meal waiting on the stove for anyone who walked in.

Her home was a haven for anyone who was in need which, came to be known as “Helen’s Hotel”. She will be forever remembered for her generosity and kindness.

She is survived by her son, Robert J. Baptista and his wife Jacqui of North Providence, five grandchildren, Robert Covington of Warwick, Kevin Baptista of East Providence, Ronnie Baptista of Riverside, Kyla Baptista of East Providence, and Cara Stisano of Cranston, 12 great-grandchildren, Robin, Erica, and Linsey Covington, Kevin, Austin, Andrew, and Gianna Baptista, Leonardo Baptista-Martin, Brittany Mortensen, Kyle, and Alessia Calderara, and Isabella Stisano, a great-great grandson,Leon Lial, a devoted niece, Kathleen “Kathy” Roderick and her husband Manuel “Manny”, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was the mother of the late Regina “Ginger” Baptista and Andrew “Lenny” Baptista, sister of the late Antone and Joseph Ramos , Candida Fernandes, Regina Miranda, Maria Barboza and Antonia Reis.

Due to the pandemic, relatives and friends will be invited to a memorial service at a future date.
