Elmer DiFilippo, 88, passed away peacefully at home in Rumford, RI on Saturday, March 23, 2019. Elmer was the oldest of 5 children born to the late John D. and Mary (Tenne) DiFilippo in Lorain, OH. He was married to Glenda (Harvey) DiFilippo for 48 years. Elmer served his country in the Army during the Korean War in Okinawa, Japan. After leaving the military he traveled the country as a Retail Advertising Executive and worked for the former Outlet Co. in Providence among other retail giants. He settled in Rumford, RI near several of his 6 children when he retired. He spent his “retirement” years working at Home Depot and Lowes while ALMOST completing many home improvement projects. In addition to Glenda, Elmer will be missed greatly by his children: Denise DiFilippo of Austin, TX; John (& Arianna) DiFilippo of Houston, TX; Susan (& Paul) Melaragno of Cumberland, RI; Collin DuCoty of Providence, RI; Cristopher (& Jean) DiFilippo of Snoqualmie, WA; and Gina (& Brian) Barbeau of Canterbury, CT: in addition to his 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Elmer is also survived by his brothers and sisters who will always hold a special place in their hearts for their big brother. Mr. DiFilippo will be laid to rest in a private service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers or other condolences, donations be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation.
