Douglas S. Ward, 98, passed away on Monday, April 8 at Tockwotton on the Waterfront in East Providence, RI. He was the husband of the late Yolanda (Milano) Ward for 50 years and the late Jeannette (Moffett) Ward. Born in Providence but spending most of his youth in Pawtucket and at Matunuck Beach, he was the son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Sladen) Ward. He graduated from Pawtucket High School and attended evening classes at Northeastern and University of Rhode Island.

Doug was a World War II veteran of the Air Force, serving as a crew chief with the 410th fighter squadron in Europe, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was employed by Gorham Manufacturing Company for 45 years, retiring in 1983 as a manager of Customer Service for the Bronze Division.

He was an avid sailor and honorary member of the Edgewood Yacht Club where he served on the Board of Governors. He and Yolanda enjoyed many years of sailing, racing and socializing with good friends and family. He began painting at the age of 80 and was proud to display his work at art shows sponsored by Nancy Stephen Galleries, Atria Harborhill in East Greenwich and Tockwotton..

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Caldamone (husband Anthony) of East Greenwich and grandchildren Amy Kingon and Matthew Caldamone. He was predeceased by his daughter Deborah Connolly and two sisters, Marjorie Nicholas and Althea Burch.

Calling hours will be at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI on Saturday, April 13 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. immediately followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.
