Donna Jeanne Bass, 78, was called into Everlasting Life on Thursday, August 20, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence Bass, her lifelong love, to whom she was married for 39 years.

She was the daughter of the late Donald L. and Lillian R. (Scott) Welshman and sister of the late David J. Welshman.

She is survived by her loyal and devoted brother Donald L. Welshman and his lovely wife Donna M. Welshman, her cherished step-children, Gregory L. Bass and his wife Denise and Kimberly D. Bass-Sauro and her husband Timothy, nine treasured nieces and nephews and dear great nieces and nephews and so so many longtime loyal friends who made her life complete and fulfilling.

She was a graduate of East Providence High School. She majored in Fashion Merchandising at Johnson & Wales and in addition took additional college courses at R.I.C.C., URI and Providence College.

She was employed by Cherry & Webb Ladies Fashion Store for 31 years as an Assistant Buyer, Associate Buyer and Executive Secretary to the Executive Vice President.

She was the first runner up in the Miss Seekonk Contest in 1963 where she was selected Miss Congeniality by the other 21 contestants.

She had many interests and hobbies including traveling, gardening, reading, poetry (some of which she has written) old movies and memorabilia and music. Her biggest and favorite was painting, including oil painting and water colored acrylics.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in East Providence where she taught CCD for 34 years before health caused her to discontinue a mission that she so enjoyed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August, 24, 2020 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 100 Taunton Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Rehoboth Village Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2020 from 5-8 in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Marvin Fund, c/o ASPCA, 186 Amaral Street, East Providence, RI 02915 would be appreciated. The guidelines set forth by the Rhode Island Department of Health will be observed. Face coverings are required and only fifteen people will be allowed in the building at a time.
