Deaconess Dorothy H. (Gilliard) Williams, R.N., 89, was called to eternal rest on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in East Providence, Rhode Island. Dorothy was born in John's Island, SC on September 21, 1928 to the late Lucy Grant Gilliard and William Gilliard. She was the youngest of ten children. Dorothy was the loving wife of the late Deacon George W. Williams. Dorothy graduated from Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse at the age of forty and was a member of the last graduating class. She was a member of The National Black Nurses Association. Dorothy was the loving mother of six sons; David Lewis Gilliard, Anthony James Williams of Riverside, RI, George Craig Williams of Cheverly, MD, and Andre Maurice Williams of Riverside, RI, one daughter-in-law Carole Carr Bell of Providence, RI. She was predeceased in death by two sons Henry Edward Bell, Frederick Carver Bell and daughter-in-law Kyndra Renee Williams of Cheverly, MD. She leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Dorothy was a faithful member of Olney Street Baptist Church for over fifty years. Services will be held Friday, May 4, 2018 at Olney Street Baptist Church. Viewing is at 9am-10:30am, funeral is at 11am. Interment at Swan Point Cemetery.
