Cornelius A. “Tony” Donato, 92, passed away at his beloved home on Friday, October 5, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Tony was born March 29, 1926 to Frank Donato and Anna Badessa in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Tony was the eldest of five children.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Phyllis Jean (Farmer) Donato, a native of Australia. Additional survivors include three daughters, Gail Provost (Barry), Donna Watt (James) and Jo-Ann Donato (Louis Evans). Mr. Donato is also survived by his brother Anthony Donato. Other survivors include numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and extended family. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles Donato and sisters Anna DelPozzo and Josephine Audette.

Tony served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a sailor on the USS Mount Hood, an ammunition ship stationed in the South Pacific. The ship was ultimately destroyed by hostile fire and Tony was one of 13 or so survivors.

Tony worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass for nearly four decades. His most recent position was a shift supervisor. Tony was known for his impeccable work ethic and integrity.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 9:00 AM from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 4-7. In lieu of flowers contributions to St. Jude Research Hospital would be appreciated.
