Carlos Garcia Lacerda

Carlos Garcia Lacerda, 92, of Catalpa Avenue, passed away Friday September 15, 2017 at the Orchard View Manor. He was the husband of the late Maria B. (Bettencourt) Lacerda. Born in Cedros, Faial, Azores, he was a son of the late Jose and Maria (Escobar) de Lacerda. Mr. Lacerda was a mason/cement finisher for Local #40 Cement Finishes for 30 years before retiring in 1989. He came to the United States in 1959 settling in Brooklyn, New York before moving to Rhode Island in 1964. He was a communicant of St. Brendan’s Church since 1964 and a member of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood of Charity in East Providence. He leaves one daughter, Maria B. Lacerda of Riverside, two sons, Carlos B. Lacerda and his wife Marie of N. Kingstown and Jose B. Lacerda and his wife Mary Jo of Seekonk, three sisters, Maria Andrade, Laura Escobar and Filomena Dutra, one brother, Eduardo Lacerda, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Albertina Dutra, Antonio, Jose, Manuel and Alberto Lacerda. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Brendan’s Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 4-8.
