Amedeo Joseph Mega, 91, formerly of Riverside, died peacefully on October 19, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris M. (O’Gara) Mega.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Antonio and Vincenza (Consola) Mega, he lived in Riverside for 30 years and wintered in Jupiter, Florida.

Mr. Mega spent his career in the transportation industry. He was the Chairman of the Mega Transportation Group from 1980 until present. He was the Vice President of Traffic for the former Hemingway Trucking Company, one of the largest Motor Carriers on the eastern seaboard. He also was the former owner of Danis Transportation Company.

Mr. Mega was the Chairman of the New England Motor Carrier Conference and the National Classification Committee. He was a past President of Delta Nu Alpha.

Mr. Mega received a Bachelor’s Degree and his MBA from Bryant College. He was a professor of Transportation Management Studies at Bryant College where he also was the Chairman of the Transportation Department. He enjoyed playing tennis and golfing and was a member of the Crestwood Country Club for 30 years.

Mr. Mega was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II as a radio man on a PT tender.

He is survived by two sons, William A. Mega of Exeter and Robert A. Mega of Rehoboth, MA; his cherished partner, Judy Lavine and her loving family, a sister, Anna Costabile of Cranston; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Concetta Del Vecchio and Joseph Mega.

His funeral will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
